“The Truth” EP: A Review

I feel so lucky to have already heard Dylan Lloyd’s upcoming 3 song EP titled “The Truth” (to be released June 30, 2017) and be able to tell you all in advance that it carries through Dylan’s distinct sound with his beautifully written, beautifully recorded songs “Dive”, “More Than Friends” and “Let Go (Remix)”. As I sat and stared off into space listening to the songs, I caught myself swaying side to side along to the music in a peaceful, slightly concerning daze. It’s rare for myself to stop everything I’m doing to completely take in one song like that, let alone 3 in a row. Every time I listen to Dylan though, I’m consistently amazed by his unique voice and music paired with the lyrics he’s written and it never fails that I find myself frozen above my keyboard until the song ends.

That being said, I want nothing more than to give you the best run down of this EP that words have to offer, while also being aware that my words can’t express these sounds as well as I wish they could.

“Dive” begins with a lovely guitar intro which immediately attracted me to the song and the second Dylan begins singing, I know I’m going to love this.  There is something about Dylan’s voice in this song that is magnetic and calming and if you love slow jams, this is the ultimate slow jam. Like sitting at the beach during sunset. Like laying in a field looking at the stars in a perfectly dark sky with no artificial light pollution. Like someone embracing you after a hard day. If you’ve never been in love, this song will make you believe that you have…Do the similes give away that this is my favorite song on the EP?

“More Than Friends” is slightly more upbeat, but somehow still feels relaxing at the same time. With it’s beautiful piano intro that transitions to a smooth blend with electric guitar, it begins to feel like the opening credits for a movie and sets the tone for great things to come. I really enjoyed this song when I first listened through but even then, it is one where the more you listen, the better it gets with it’s uniquely enlightening sound.

“Let Go (Remix)” Is a song taken from Dylan’s Aria EP. In my interview with him (which I PROMISE I am working on writing!) I asked him which song was his favorite on this EP and with hesitation, he said he would have chose “Let Go” because he felt the remake of the song was done great justice. Although Dylan, for the sake of picking a new one, chose to change his answer, I agree that the remake was done very well. With it still being a classic and soothing Dylan Lloyd sound, it is then paired with an inviting beat layered behind it rather than a clear piano, giving a more bouncy, head bopping feel.

This EP has been greatly developed and similarly to all of Dylan’s music, is very real. I have found myself connecting to many of his songs as he writes about things others can relate to or writes in such a way that I feel like I can understand things that I don’t. I can’t wait for you all to hear the album in just a few days. Dylan, once again, has killed it, and I’m confident you all will love it as much as I do!

Meaning in Music

Of all the songs that are played on the radio day in and day out, I have a hard time finding the deeper meaning in several of them. Don’t get me wrong, your girl loves a little (a lot) of pop in her life and I’m not opposed to listening to the hits on my way home from work, but often, it is only a catchy tune to sing along to for a quicker commute. Personally, I find there is nothing more refreshing than an artist who creates something that I want to take in every word of and try to truly understand what message they are sending.

Next week, many know and I’m pleased to say I’ll be chatting with one of my favorite singer-songwriters, Dylan Lloyd, who completely goes against this. Listening to Dylan, I know that when he writes, it is from the heart and done with thought, rather than as a rushed process simply done to release the next charting hit – although he has also had a few charting albums in his music career.

Ironically enough, his song that I currently can’t stop listening to is titled “You Probably Won’t Hear This Song on the Radio” and speaks out on the way we act and want change in the world but are so unwilling to change ourselves.

In spirit of the upcoming interview with Dylan (also my first interview for this blog!) the song is posted on Dylan’s Facebook for free and everyone would benefit from a listen. As stated in the video caption, he chose not to put it on any platform where it needs to be purchased or he could make money from in order for the message to be heard and shared as much as possible without being misconstrued. Don’t forget to check back in next week for the full article and interview with Dylan!

You Probably Won’t Hear This Song on the Radio

I started this blog in an attempt to branch out and do something I love. I have always enjoyed writing, music, and getting to know others and in the past few years, I  have had the honor of meeting some of my greatest friends I’ve ever had through music. Being so invested in the overwhelming joy I feel when I find a new artist that I can’t stop listening to, I have found myself creating bonds with a few musicians that I have enjoyed. As I thought about how much I love these things, I wanted to combine them all at once. In an attempt to do this, I have gathered a couple of, what I like to consider “friends”, and invited them for interviews. These are what I believe could be the next up and coming artists – all of which are very talented and unique with shining personalities and countless positive qualities. This blog is going to be a positive space and I wish to leave “negative” interviews and articles in the dust, only posting content that is encouraging, artists that have a great impact, new music that I think you will enjoy, and so forth. I hope this is enjoyable and I can’t wait to get started! Sometime within the month, I will be posting an article on a brilliant artist, Dylan Lloyd, who has so kindly agreed to be my first interview! Thank you, Dylan. I can’t wait to talk with you!
